Pray Over Your Children While They Are Sleeping

Do you pray over your children while they are sleeping?

Most parents kiss their children goodnight, but I want to ask you if you are doing an extra step in your bedtime routine that can make a huge impact on your family’s life.

Kiss Them Goodnight

At bedtime, we do a Bible story or devotion, pray, kiss the children and tuck them in bed. A lot of families have a similar routine. The next step in the bedtime routine is critical in my opinion.

After my children have gone to sleep and before I go to sleep myself, I go back and kiss them goodnight. I mean what child is not more precious when they are sleeping? You could have had the toughest day as a parent, but when you see their sweet, sleeping face, you see how precious they are. So, when I kiss them again while they are sleeping, I usually whisper that I love you. Then I pray over each of them.

The Power of Prayer

Praying for your children is imperative. Praying over your children is also vitally important.

The battle for our children’s lives is waged on our knees. When we don’t pray, it’s like sitting on the sidelines watching our children in a war zone getting shot at from every angle. When we do pray, we’re in the battle alongside them, appropriating God’s power on their behalf. If we also declare the Word of God in our prayers, then we wield a powerful weapon against which no enemy can prevail.

Stormie Omartian- The Power of the Praying Parent

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12

What Should You Pray?

  • Pray for your child’s protection
  • Pray for your child’s salvation
  • Pray for your child’s healing
  • Pray for your child’s heart and mind
  • Pray for your child to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength
  • Pray God’s Word over your children

The End Result

We may never realize as parents or grandparents the impact our prayers have on our children. This side of eternity we may never see the blessing and protection that each child has received from the Lord. I have witnessed God’s miracles with both of my children. I have witnessed God’s mighty healing power, salvation, peace and so much more in each of my children’s lives.
